Nine new genes causing variations in heart attacks.
"Almost half of the new gene will not be believed by anyone associated with the biology of heart,"said Dan Arking from the Faculty of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University,told Reuters.
In the journal Cirsulation,Arking report has found that a single gene may increase the risk of death from heart attack.
He also identified nine new genes that modify the heart contractions,the so-called QT interval.
The faster the rate,the faster the heart berepolarisasi to prepare the next contraction,and consequently the shorter the QT interval.
QT interval is generally 40 percent of the normal cardiac cycle is measured from one R wave to the next R wave.
According to Arking,people with long QT intervals have a higher risk of sudden death from heart attack.
The results of research on 15,842 people showed that those with the gene variant 10 are most likely experiencing a long QT interval.
A heart attack can increase the risk of having abnormal heart rhythms,but the people who inherit these genes can never predictable.
"The problem,they do not have risk factors.They are not high cholesterol and obesity.Factor gene to be the only possibility,"says Arking.
The next challenge for researchers is to identify how big a role each of these genes in increasing the risk of heart disease.
