DIABETES IN CHILDREN

Two studies from the UK shows, diabetes in children could be because the virus.
These findings,as quoted by Reuters, will help efforts to find a vaccine.
Enterovirus, which usually causes fever, vomiting and diarrhea, found in most pancreatic children who died from diabetes type-1.
However, enterovirus was found in the pancreas in healthy people.
These findings indicate that the virus can trigger diabetes in children.
The number of sufferers around 440,000 children around the world "There is a virus infection that preceded the attack on autoimmune conditions," said Alan Foulis from the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, one of the researchers.
Different autoimmune diseases with type 2 diabetes, which is closely associated with obesity,Foulis and colleagues examined 73 pancreatic youth who died from diabetes, and found that 60 percent of the organs that contain beta cells infected with enterovirus.
Instead, according to the researchers report in the journal Diabetologia, they never found an infected beta cells in tissue samples taken from 50 children who did not have diabetes.
They also found many infected cells in the adult organism diabetes type-2,showed that the virus also trigger diabetes in some people.
A second study at the University of Cambridge discovered that rare genetic mutations occur in genes associated with the body's response to the virus, can reduce the risk of diabetic children.
They observed 480 young people who suffer from type-1 diabetes and 480 healthy people to determine the genes and variants associated.
"We found a specific gene that acts as a warning against viral infections," said John Todd,a researcher from the University of Cambridge,in the journal Science.
"Not just specific gene,we also discovered that this gene has a stimulating function in dealing with viral infections,"
Foulis and his team wanted to break down 100 enterovirus to find viruses which play a major role.
"Aim to get a vaccine that could prevent many cases of type-1 diabetes," he said.
